Unable to run exported SUU from remote server

Been using Repository manager for a while now and upgraded from 1.4 to 1.6 a few days ago.

After I export my repo to a SUU folder, I copy it to a file share and launch the SUU from that share.

After upgrading to 1.6, I briefly see the "Copying files because SUU is being run over a the network window" and then it just stops and the inventory screen never comes up. It also maps a drive while copying files and the mapped drive disappears shortly after the SUU stops.

If I copy the SUU folder locally to the server I'm updating, it runs fine.

Not sure why this is different in 1.6, what are some things I can look at?

I was able to launch SUU over the network created with RM 1.6 and SUU plug-in 720. Not sure which is the version of the plug-in you used to create the SUU, try to upgrade the plugin and re-create the SUU with the latest plug-in. It might solve the issue.

I went as far as uninstalling RM, deleting the RM folder under my profile AppData\Local, and re-installing. I cannot find any logs that indicate an error. I'm looking for something that may have changed in this build. All the SUUs created with 1.4 worked great when launched from a network share.

We do have group policy that requires SMB digital communication at both the client and server level.

I also seemed to be having this issue and I had no patience for investigating it so I simply downloaded, extracted, and shared out the SUU 7.2.1 ISO as a network SUU folder and that worked for me.

Frankly I've not had great luck with Repository Manager lately as there are always components that won't download for days or weeks (files missing from the FTP site?  or a bad catalog on the FTP?) and occasionally there are weird issues like this.  Generally the SUU ISOs seem to work best.

woochman and addilapi,

There is an issue with the SUU 7.2.1 version of the plug-in (not the DVD version) when launching from a network share.  Even using an older version of Dell Repository Manager(1.4) with this version of the plug-in will have the same issue. We are investigating the issue.with the plug-in.

As a workaround you can use the SUU 7.2.0 version of the plug-in. Here are the steps for manually using this plug-in:

1. Go to the local folder where Repository Manager stores the plug-in file.

You can locate here : %localappdata%\RepositoryManager\Payloads

2. Delete files starting with name SUU_xxxx.cab.

3. Manually download the plug-in file from this link and place it in Payloads folder:

ftp://ftp.dell.com/FOLDER01182045M/1/SUU_720.cab

4. Now export a bundles to a SUU folder using this plug-in.

Hope this workaround helps for now.

Repository Manager lets a user build a custom SUU for only specific platforms that can reduce its size if a user does not want to use the SUU DVD because of its large size.

Kumaran,

I'm able to launch/run the SUU from a network share using the SUU_720.cab file, thank you for the workaround. Please post back when a new cab file is available.

Chris,

The new plug-in is now available here:

ftp://ftp.dell.com/FOLDER01465122M/1/SUU_721.cab

Use the method previously posted to download and use it manually.

Please report back if you see any issues.

Thanks for your patience.

Kumaran,

I created a new SUU folder using the updated cab file. I launched it via the network on both a Server 2008 R2 SP1 GUI and Core machine and it's working as it should. Thanks for getting this resolved.
