Create Local Repository for LifeCycle Controller
Hi,
I want to create a local mirror/repository for PowerEdge Servers with LifeCycle Controller. So I can use the LifeCycle controller to update firmware on the servers.
But in Dell Repository Manager I don't know which type of updates to choose.
What upgrades does the LifeCycle Controller use? Which Local Repository do I need to create?
- Windows 32-bit
- Windows 64-bit
- Linux 32- and 64-bit
- OS Independent
Please assist.

Hi Raboo3d,
Thanks for writing to us on the forum. Lifecycle Controller (LC) uses Windows DUPs and as of now please use Windows 32-bit bundles/DUPs to create repositories for LC.
Let us know if you experience any issues with this
Thanks,
Krishna

Well the sucess was mixed.
Upgrade using lifecycle controller via NFS worked. I think it complained about something, cerificate or something. Can't remember. But I proceeded.
I got some warning about some failed download. But then the firmware update still succeed.
Upgrading NIC failed on both machines.
Upgrading BIOS failed on one machine.
Some upgrade failed, but then worked after lifecycle controller had been updated.
The machine that didn't fail with BIOS upgrade did get bricked. Even though you see a virtual disk in BIOS/Lifecycle controlller and RAID management. It can't boot of it, and it cannot find any disks when trying to reinstall system.
Will try to reinitialize the RAID and see if it works. Will keep you posted..
Overall feeling is that this is really bad.. Firmware upgrades should not brick the system.

Ok maybe it didn't brick my raid setup.. It created a primary hard usb drive of 262 MB. It was the idrac. A usb iDRAC mas022 drive.
That new ghost hard drive was the primary in boot, no matter what settings you had...
The resolution was to reboot the idrac. Don't really know why downgrade of idrac didn't solve that problem..
But i upgraded idrac again and rebooted it and then that ghost hard drive disappeared.
It's 2013, and it's still not painless to upgrade dell servers firmware.. Shame on you dell.
