Pro Max 16 MC16250, Pro Dock WD25, SDD is identified as HDD
Hello!
I have a Dell Pro Max 16 MC16250 running Windows 11 Pro 25H2 connected to a Dell WD25 Pro Dock. According to the specs the USB ports on the WD25 dock are supposed to be USB 3.2 Gen 2. I have applied the latest BIOS updates.
When I plug in a SATA SSD via USB on the WD25, the drive is identified as an HDD instead of a Solid State drive, and as such, TRIM is not available.
I know that the SDD supports trim, because when I attach that very same SDD via my homemade Thunderbolt-to-SATA adapter, it shows up as an SDD, and I am able to trim the drive.
USB 3.2 Gen 2 is supposed to support the TRIM command, and I bought a new SATA to USB 3.2 Gen 2 adapter, and the specs for this adapter specifically state that the TRIM command is supported.
Why does the SDD not show up as a solid state device when I plug it in? Is there some additional Windows driver or setting that is needed?
Thanks!
