Pro Max 14 MC14250, hardware support under Ubuntu 24.04?

I have the Dell Pro Max 14 MC14250 which shipped with Ubuntu 24.04 however needed to reinstall to enable hard disk encryption.

Having re-installed Ubuntu 24.04 the sound card is not detected so the speakers and microphone do not work. Also the fingerprint reader is not detected.

I tried the OEM kernel linux-oem-24.04 but that was even worse as the wifi adapter wasn't detected.

Is there a different kernel that is expected to be used for now?

Thanks.

Hi @anne_droid,

Thanks for the suggestion. Just replying to say that the sound card is now working since updating to the suggested kernel for the device that Ubuntu have since posted on their compatibility page.

Hopefully this helps someone else.

Hi

This may help, but also may not....

  • For the exact Dell-shipped version, request a recovery image from Dell Support.

@david-g4m Thanks, this indeed did solve issues with sound for me - thank you. For anyone else, I did the following to make it work:

sudo apt install linux-image-6.11.0-1011-oem linux-headers-6.11.0-1011-oe

However, I'm getting terrible connections speeds over wifi and can't see any mention of issues (all other computers connected show a lot faster connections on speedtest.net). There is this article stating that wifi 7 support is not available: https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-uk/000309405/wi-fi-7-support-on-dell-computers-with-client-linux-operating-systems
But I can't see anything else.

Anyone else having issues?

I'm getting ~1Mb down on the pro max. >50Mb down everywhere else.

I'm typically connected via Ethernet but I just tried disconnecting and using WiFi and the laptop managed to get 700+Mbps down. Although the router I'm using (RT-AX86U) only supports up to WiFi 6.
