Major Bluetooth Audio Regression - Intel BE201 - Audio Loss and System Freezes (Driver 24.30.1)
Model: Dell Pro Max 16 MC16250
OS: Windows 11
Description of the issue: I am reporting a critical regression in the Bluetooth stack for the Intel Wi-Fi 7 BE201 chipset. Since the update to the 24.x driver branch (including the latest 24.30.1 released on March 24, 2026), Bluetooth audio (A2DP) is completely broken.
Key Symptoms:
No Sound: Peripherals (tested with Rockbox Pebble and PT-WH005N1) connect, but no audio is played.
Multimedia Freezes: YouTube videos and VLC playback freeze or auto-pause as soon as a Bluetooth device is connected.
System Instability: Attempting a System Restore to a previous stable state resulted in a 1-hour black screen hang, forcing a hard reset. The restore failed with a critical error.
Successful Workaround: The only version that works perfectly is the Dell-certified 23.160.0.9. Rolling back to this version manually restores all functionality.
This is a widespread issue also discussed on Intel Communities. As this is a premium Dell system under warranty, I request the engineering team to investigate why the 24.x driver branch is destabilizing the Windows Audio service and preventing system recovery.
Note on wider context: I've noticed similar reports on the Intel Community where multiple users with the BE201 chipset are flagging the exact same A2DP audio failure and system instability with the 24.x driver branch. This confirms it's a widespread regression and not an isolated hardware fault on my specific unit.

Roll back Intel BE201 Bluetooth driver to Dell-certified 23.160.0.9, block automatic driver updates, and report the bug to Dell & Intel support.

Thank you @concerned-cranberry for this extremely detailed breakdown. Your findings regarding the microphone profile (HFP/HSP) causing extreme static/failures align perfectly with what I’m seeing on the A2DP side.
It’s clear now: 24.10.4 was the last 'Intel-side' stable version, and anything after that (24.20 and 24.30) is a total disaster for the BE201 chipset.
Dell, we now have confirmation across multiple premium headsets (Shokz, Anker, Jabra, AirPods) and multiple users. We need a Dell-validated fix.

Indeed I had to apply repeated rollbacks meaning uninstall Intel bluetooth driver , reboot, attempt to install the 170 version which refused to install. Error: Can not downgrade from version 160 ...to 170 ... HUH???
Anyway: I am now back on Intel Bluetooth driver 23.160.0.9 on Promax 14. ( yes BIOS ,every other driver is up date).
I did NOT take the risk to update the Intel SST driver ( there is an update on the windows 11 update catalog with .CAB file).
SST=Intel® Smart Sound Technology (Intel® SST) Driver.
In my case the problem was terrible crackling when attempting to use Jabra bluetooth headsets. Indeed all 24.X driver version suffer from major issues with BT.
Whether this is related to the SST driver to be out of sync with BT? I have no clue!

@JK747, thanks for the update! It’s interesting (and frustrating) to see the exact same behavior on the Pro Max 14.
Your point about the Intel SST (Smart Sound Technology) is a great catch. The "crackling" and the way YouTube/VLC freeze suggests a clear sync issue between the Bluetooth stack and the audio engine.
I've been monitoring a similar massive thread on the Intel Community ( https://community.intel.com/t5/Wireless/Intel-Wireless-Bluetooth-driver-causes-video-freeze-after-Sleep/m-p/1740982 ), and it’s disappointing to see that Intel’s official response there is basically to "stick with OEM drivers" and close the case.
The problem is that Intel and Microsoft are forcing these broken 24.x generic drivers via Windows Update, which overrides the stable Dell 23.x version. We are essentially trapped in a loop of manual rollbacks.
Dell suppor; since Intel seems to be dismissing these technical regressions as "OEM-specific," we really need Dell Engineering to step in. A stable Pro Max system shouldn't have its audio stack broken by a standard Windows Update.

I am running the year older BE200 card and currently using 24.30.1.1 with no problems on my Desktop.
Could you run the command below and see if the graph created on your desktop has any mention of Wi-Fi/Bluetooth problems?

I have same issue with latest command update drivers with pro max 14. Videos are not going to play if the bluetooth headphones are connected.
