Touchscreen stop working on Dell Pro 14 Premium after lid open, restart or wake up
Touchscreen Not Working Properly on Dell Pro 14 Premium – I2C HID Device Code 10 Error
Hello everyone,
A few days ago, I purchased a Dell Pro 14 Premium laptop and was initially very impressed. However, the excitement quickly faded due to a persistent issue with the touchscreen functionality.
The touchscreen fails to work under the following conditions:
- After powering on the laptop
- Upon reboot
- After waking from sleep mode
- When closing and reopening the lid
In Device Manager, I can see the “I2C HID Device” listed under the Intel(R) Serial IO I2C Host Controller - A851. It shows the following error:
This device cannot start. (Code 10) – A request for the HID descriptor failed.
Interestingly, if I manually disable the I2C HID Device and then re-enable it, the error disappears, and the touchscreen starts working again. However, the issue reoccurs until the next reboot or lid action.
Here’s what I’ve already tried:
- Updated all system, dell and windows drivers to the latest versions
- Disabled all power-saving options for this device
Has anyone encountered a similar problem or found a reliable solution?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Well I will suggest you to try to Change Sleep/Lid Settings for your laptop it might help you in fixing the issue as you update all the driver and other stuff already.
