Pro 14 Premium PA14250, strange OS issue
Hello everyone...
I have just got a Dell Pro 14 Premium PA14250 laptop (Win11) and I have a very annoying issue!!!
Parts of the OS seems to be in tablet mode but isn't as there is no option to turn off tablet mode.
The taskbar displays as if its in tablet mode , and it has check boxes on files and folders although the check boxes option is not enabled....
screen shot attached...
The laptop has had a system reset, still the same issue.
Hard drive was wiped and OS recovered from Dell's site.... still the same issue
Hard drive wiped, OS installed from Microsoft ISO download... still the same issue.
I can change the taskbar back in options but the check box on files doesn't do anything.

Hi
The internet reports....
The Dell Pro 14 Premium PA14250 operates as a 2-in-1 device, which means it may automatically switch to tablet mode when the screen is opened past a certain angle or if Windows senses the keyboard is detached or disabled. In Windows 11, traditional "Tablet Mode" controls from Windows 10 are largely removed, but the device may still optimize the interface for touch/tablet use in convertible mode. Follow these steps to try to disable tablet mode and restore normal laptop/desktop behavior:
Steps to Disable Tablet Mode
Return the laptop to standard position: Physically rotate or close the display to a typical "laptop" position. The keyboard and touchpad should reactivate if the system senses it is no longer in tablet configuration.
Check keyboard connection: If using a detachable keyboard, ensure it is firmly re-attached. A poor connection can cause the device to remain in tablet mode.
Restart the device: Simple glitches can often be resolved with a reboot.
Check Windows settings:
Open Windows Settings.
Go toSystem > Display, and look for 'Tablet' or 'Display Orientation' settings.
There is no longer an explicit on/off toggle, but you can select display orientation (Landscape for laptop use) and check the 'Rotation Lock' setting, ensuring automatic switching doesn’t get stuck.
For some devices, going toSettings > Personalization > Taskbar > Taskbar behaviorsand unchecking "Optimize taskbar for touch interactions" can help revert to desktop-style taskbar.
Action Center (older Windows/2-in-1 behavior): Swipe or click in the bottom right corner to open Action Center and look for a "Tablet Mode" tile. If present, click to toggle off. (This is mostly relevant to Windows 10 or legacy configurations but may still appear in some Dell custom images).
Advanced fix—Device Manager: If the system is "stuck," open Device Manager, expand "System Devices," and temporarily disable any 'Sensor' devices (especially "Intel Integrated Sensor Solution"). This can prevent the system from trying to detect its mode using faulty orientation or lid sensors; use carefully, as this disables all related auto-rotation and detection features.
Notes and Troubleshooting
There is no longer a dedicated button or menu toggle for Tablet Mode in Windows 11, so most changes are triggered by hardware state and auto-rotation sensors.
For persistent problems, firmware or driver updates may be required, especially for sensor or keyboard subsystems. Visit Dell Support for the PA14250 for updates if needed.
If after following these steps the device remains in tablet mode (keyboard/touchpad disabled, on-screen keyboard appearing), sensor hardware or its driver may be malfunctioning, and updating or temporarily disabling the problematic system sensor is advisable.

This is the issue with that laptop, it is not a 2-in-1 and doesn't have a touchscreen so this doesn't have the hinge that folds 180.
Because it's technically not in tablet mode, there are no tablet related options detailed above or fixes work, but the taskbar/file and folders tick box still think they are in touch screen mode.

Unfortunately that is fixed in bios 2.6.1 - you would also need to reinstall windows.

If you update the BIOS to 2.6.1 can you not fix this issue with DISM which repairs the image? What's the reason for doing the full windows re-install?

Done a test today and below was done to resolve issue for us for now.
Update Bios to version 2.6.1
Sign into the laptop with another profile and then from Advanced Settings Win+R sysdm.cpl gone to advanced user profiles and settings. from there delete the troubled profile.
Restarted and signed in again and at this stage it does the setup of the profile from scratch with registry etc.
