Pro 14 Plus PB14250, with dock, not detecting external monitor on bootup

I have a new Dell Pro 14 Plus (PB14250) with Dell Pro Thunderbolt 4 Smart Dock (SD25TB4) with a Dell AW3821DW monitor connected via DisplayPort.  When I reboot the system or power it up from sleep, my external monitor is not detected.

If I right-click on the background, select "display settings", then hit "detect" in the "Detect other display" box, it doesn't detect the monitor.

Power-cycling the monitor sometimes allows it to be detected, other times I need to unplug the dock from the laptop and plug it back in.  Once it's detected it works as expected.

Anyone have any suggestions?   I haven't tried connecting via HDMI yet, might try that next.
