Pro 14 Plus PB14250, battery charging software/app, which one?

I used Power Manager on my old XPS13 and it was excellent for controlling the charging of my battery but I have read online that MyDell, Dell Optimizer and Power Manager apps are supported on virtually all Dell laptops, except Dell Pro laptops.

Has anyone got any suggestions for what can I use on my Dell Pro laptop to have the same control as Power Manager gave me before?

Also, why are Dell Pro laptops not able to use MyDell, Dell Optimizer and Power Manager apps for battery charging control?

Thanks.

@DELL-ChrisM2

I will download Dell Optimizer and give it a go.
Wait, are you saying Dell Optimizer was not pre-installed from Dell?

Yes, the only Dell apps on the laptop are Dell Pair and SupportAssist which I downloaded.

The issue with Optimizer is that there is no functionality to setup data like the Peak Shift category in Power Manager which worked perfectly for me so with the "update" to Optimizer, I have lost all the battery functionality which kept my battery in such great health, and it still is in great health as we speak!

On my old XPS13 9350 I could control battery usage, charging, AC adapter usage etc with Dell Power Manager's Battery Settings and Peak Shift functions.

I now have a Pro 14 Plus PB14250 and I am told that Power Manager has been replaced by Optimizer.

However, when I installed Optimizer, there isn't any functionality that allows you to control this the same way as Power Manager, so can anyone suggest how this can be done to keep the battery between 20 and 80% ?

Thanks.

I had an online chat with support and they gave instructions to go into the BIOS and change the Battery Configuration to stop charging at 80%.

The issue with this is that the %age to start charging cannot be lower than 50% so does not help.

They then gave me a link to download Power Manager, instructed me to uninstall Optimizer and install Power Manager.

As expected, it didn't work properly and rather than waste more time, I have looked for a solution elsewhere.

The solution that works for me is as follows:

1) Go into the BIOS and change the Battery Configuration to stop charging at 80%.

2) Go to Major Geeks website and download the Battery Notifier app ( https://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/battery_notifier.html ).

This allows you to setup alarms for Full Battery and Low Battery (for me 80% and 20%).

So when running on battery and the Low Battery alarm comes on, plug in the charger and when the Full Battery alarm comes on, the battery will have stopped charging as this was setup in the BIOS Battery Configuration setting.

Obviously you can set the Full and Low settings in the Battery Notifier app at whatever value you want.

Make sure your Full Battery setting in the app is the same as the Stop Charging value in the BIOS Battery Configuration.

Hope this helps anyone else.

I have discovered issues with the Battery Notifier app from Major Geeks.

The Battery value of the App only updates when you start the App, plug in the power, or unplug the power. After that, the value remains unchanged until you plug in or unplug the power.

This has been reported by another user (https://github.com/Sandip124/BatteryNotifier/issues ) and confirmed as a bug by the devloper (see website link) in November 2025,  but as yet, has not been fixed.

I have found an app on the Microsoft Store which does work, Battery Alarm & Analytics by NxeCcde24 Labs, so you could give that a try.

Hope this helps.

So here we are a few months later...  no charge limit in Dell Optimizer for the Dell Pro 14 Premium?

There are two Pro 14 Plus. List which one you have there. Pro 14 Plus PB14250 or Pro 14 Plus PB14255.

The 2025 Dell Pro computers offer the new Dell Optimizer software which is used to adjust settings for power and battery, display, collaboration touchpad, and presence detection.

Dell Power Manager has been replaced by Dell Optimizer

There must be an official way to do this outside of BIOS.  Anyone from Dell Support can help us out here?  Why does the Dell Optimizer not have this capability yet?

On your Dell Pro 14 Plus PB14250, there isn’t a dedicated battery-charging app like the old Dell Power Manager that gives fine-grained charge start/stop thresholds. Dell Power Manager has basically been phased out and folded into newer tools like MyDell (for consumer models) and Dell Optimizer, but on many Pro/enterprise laptops those apps either don’t expose full charge control features or aren’t supported for that purpose. On your machine you’ll find Dell Optimizer installed, but it likely won’t let you set custom charge limits the way Power Manager did because Dell is steering this functionality into firmware/BIOS or larger enterprise-oriented tools instead of a standalone battery app
