Tower Plus EBT2250, PSU change need adapter

Hello,

I had to get a new 1000w psu for my EBT2250 that has a rtx 5060 in it from Dell under warranty because the original psu failed. The rtx 5060 has a 12 pin mini port and the new psu has standard 8 pin  because Dell upgraded the design of the psu due to issues with the original design of the psu that had 12 pins on it for the gpu. Dell support doesn’t have an answer on when they will have the 8 pin to 12 pin mini adapter they said. Does anyone have any ideas on where to get one? All the ones I see say for the 30 series, I cannot find one for the 50 series or even the 40 series.

thanks in advance.

EBT2250 part list

RTX5060 cable dongle DP/N 46PJ6. made by AMPHENOL

Dell uses genuine Amphenol metal fittings to make sure the 12V-2x6 connector is completely fixed in place, unable to accidentally come loose. Amphenol is one of the world's biggest manufacturers of interconnect products. The cable actually plugging into this female connector isn't even a native 16-pin one; rather, it's an adapter that terminates in 2x standard 8-pin PCIe plugs.

So, The final resolution is that Dell support found that the new cable did not come with the upgraded design 1000w psu as it was supposed to. I sent back the defective power supply with the original cable as I was instructed to. Dell support sent a replacement cable which was in fact part 46PJ6, and now my pc is up and running. I called it an adapter when i should have called it a cable.

Thanks for the time and input everyone.

Hi

Does any of this make sense ...

For the Dell EBT2250, what you likely need is a 12V-2x6 / 12VHPWR GPU adapter cable that takes the PSU’s standard 8-pin PCIe outputs and feeds the GPU’s 16-pin power socket; Dell community posts describe the EBT2250 PSU as having 2x8-pin PCIe outputs plus extra 2x6 pigtailed leads, and Dell-branded 12V-2x6 adapters for this platform are described as terminating in standard 8-pin PCIe plugs.

This even less so ...

Recommended places to buy compatible third-party adapters (prioritizing UK sellers for your location in Ingerland):

  • Amazon UK or similar retailers: Search for "PCIe 8-pin to 12VHPWR adapter RTX 50 series" – these are widely available (e.g., 2x8-pin to 12+4-pin cables from brands like CableMod, NZXT, or Silverstone). Ensure it's rated for at least 600W and compatible with Gen 5 connectors to avoid melting issues.

  • UK PC component shops:

    • Bosse Computers (Silverstone 2x EPS 8-pin to 12+4-pin PCIe Gen5 cable, ~£23 ex VAT).

    • Fruugo UK (12VHPWR PCIe 5.0 to dual 8-pin cables).

  • AliExpress: Cables specifically mentioning Dell EBT2250 or similar power supplies, often under £10-20, with UK shipping options available.

  • Dell UK Parts: Check Dell's official parts lookup by entering your EBT2250 service tag at dell.com/en-uk/shop/partsforyourdell – no specific adapter listed, but monitor for updates or contact support.

As I guess your US.

It seems that even an OEM as large as Dell isn't safe from the incendiary woes of the 16-pin connector, as it's taking extra measures to ensure safety. In a Japanese review of the company's "EBT2250" prebuilt by Chimorogu, the teardown reveals a rather interesting approach to supplying power to the GPU inside. The connector is permanently bolted on so it doesn't move even a bit.

Thank you, is the bottom one the 1000w power supply version? Also, I’m curious as to why the Dell technical support team didn’t know this.

update: can’t find on Dell and other sites say not in stock.

@anne_droid

yes I am in the us, the only thing I remotely found was a 120 watt version on Amazon that wouldn’t remotely cut it.  I find it odd that Dell would go from a power supply that had the 12 pin connector right on it to these dual 8 pins that you need the adapter, to only then not have any adapters available.

* Unknown. I would not want to speculate.

can’t find on Dell
* It is not on Dell sales site because it shows in the SPMD (Spare Parts Master Database) as not for sale. If available, a GHN technical support agent would have to get manager approval to send out 46PJ6 to you as a Parts Only Service.

* Confused. 46PJ6 is the Dell OEM part number as shown in the Dell SPMD?

It doesn’t seem to be for the 1000watt psu, plus neither I nor tech support can find it anywhere. I am 6 days into the warranty case after getting my new psu that was upgraded to the dual 8 pin design vs the 12 pin design the failed psu had that was originally in my system. I called tech support and gave them this part number and they said it’s not even available and they are working on an alternative.

I was simply just trying to see if the community itself had any ideas.
