Tower Plus EBT2250, internal storage SSD
I have a new dell tower plus ebt2250, and want to add a 2TB m.2 2230 nvme ssd for games using the existing slot on the system board. What brands are compatible for this? Crucial seems to be one of the top trusted brands. Would the Crucial P310 2230 be a good choice? Any suggestions are appreciated. Thank you !!!

Hi
I would double check whether a 2280 is preferable to a 2230, I recently bought a Crucial P310 2TB PCIe Gen4 NVMe 2280 M.2 SSD

@anne_droid Hi anne, and thanks for the quick reply. I was thinking about the 2280 also. I was more concerned about compatibility. I'll take a look at your suggestion. Maybe even go with a 4TB instead of just a 2TB with the 2280 depending on price difference. Thanks again !! =))

Hi
As it is an extra item it should just slot in.

I also bought a ugreen caddy for one, and it has a thermal pad, so maybe the 80 mm long unit will be cooler with the larger surface area than a 30 mm unit.

@anne_droid Agreed. Another interesting fact that I found is that the 2TB 2280 is $20.00 cheaper than the smaller (in size) 2TB 2230. Also the 4TB 2280 is just over twice the price (about $244.00) of the 2TB (at $124.00), so I went with your suggestion instead of the 4TB. 2TB should be plenty. I ordered one. It should be here in a day or two. I'll update here once I have installed it and have it recognized & working. Thanks again!!

On my EBT2250 I've installed a Samsung SSD 990 Pro, and it works flawlessly. There are often good deals on those models.

@Gilles.P That one looks great as well. It's currently $169.00 which is a bit more pricey than the Crucial at $125.00. I already got the Crucial 2TB, but what I didn't consider was any type of Thermal Pad or additional Heatsink. When I went to install, there's an area (in red) that says "Thermal Pad Placement" on the System Board. Dell uses a 20X20X5.25mm on the main SSD, so I have to get some Thermal Pad material. I should have thought of that before hand. =((

@Jimbo41Q So just to wrap this up, I got some Thermal Pad (Arctic TP-3) that was 120x20x.5mm. It came in 4 strips. I cut to size and layered them up nice and flat (no air pockets). 11 layers so it was 5.5mm thick. Then just slightly compressed it by hand so it was the 5.25mm thickness that I needed. Placed it on the red highlighted space (pic above) and then installed the Crucial P310. It worked out perfectly. Got it up and running with no issues. Thanks for all the replies and feedback. =))
