Tower ECT1250, set USB power OFF when goes to sleep

I changed the 'USB selective suspend setting' in power options and the 'allow this computer to turn off this device to save power' in the driver and that did not help - I could not find an option in the BIOS.

Thanks

I called Dell - the answer (according to them) is that u can't shut down power on USB for this model when computer sleeps. This is by design.

You're right, it doesn't help.  Then it's more difficult to wake PC from sleep.  USB Selective Suspend should be set to Never in Windows.  Not sure what you meant by "...in the driver..."  Not quite sure of what you were looking for in BIOS since USB Selective Suspend is in Windows.  Not enough details.

I'm trying to have USB power off when the ECT1250 goes to sleep - the steps I found online were to 1- 'USB selective suspend setting' to disable, 2-'allow this computer to turn off this device to save power' for each USB HUB in the device manager and 3- check if there are setting in the BIOS to  update

I did 1 and 2 , and did not find any BIOS options and the ports still provide power when the computer goes to sleep.

Now you're making sense.  I take it Win11 is the OS being used.  And no, you won't find USB Selective Suspend in BIOS.

It sounds like an error with the OS.  Sorry, I don't have a solution in this case.  Usually it's the other way around.  People want there USB's to have power in sleep state.

You shouldn't have to reload the OS just for USB Selective Suspend the work properly.

Do you have some USB power hungry devices you want off while PC is in sleep state?  Try disconnecting those.  Set USB Selective Suspend to Never.  Save.  Then go back to Disable and Save.  Any luck?  Mouse shouldn't be able to wake PC.  I wonder if one of your devices is keeping the USB's alive.

As @bradthetechnut says, this sounds like a Windows Power Config issue. There are some commands you can enter to Reset and/or troubleshoot it.

You can try any BIOS options you see, but on UEFI-systems, most of those are Windows-based now-days (since it's all tied-together now-days). There are also new Sleep-States.

Remember. that some front USB-Ports might be "charging-capable" and may not turn-off as you would expect.

Finally ... please don't use "Sleep Mode". Turn it on, use it, shut-it-down (easy and machine and it's device are more stable).

@Frd42

Question = If you had the ability to turn off power to the the USB ports when entering sleep mode, how would you then wake up the computer if using a USB-A transmitter (wireless keyboard and mouse) or wired USB-A mouse wired USB-A keyboard?
