Tower ECT1250, not working with HP LaserJet M1212mf MFP printer

We purchased a new Dell desktop running Windows 11 and a new Dell monitor to replace an older Dell tower/monitor running Windows 10. The new products were delivered last week and we managed to connect the new tower/monitor and got them working together. Now, here are the issues we encountered:

(1). With the new desktop, we are unable to get our old printer, HP LaserJet Pro M1212nf MFP, to work. We downloaded the drivers from the HP website, tried to re-install with the accompanying HP utility CD, tried downloading the Dell firmware as suggested in the options menu. None old these maneuvers worked. Is this a compatibility issue? I checked the HP Windows 11 compatible printers and that model wasn't listed.

(2).  Since the older Dell XPS 8700 /monitor is in perfect working condition running Windows 10. We decided to keep it as a backup and re-hooked up the system. We unhooked and transferred the package to another location in the house. One would think that the re-hooking it up will be a breeze. Unfortunately, we encountered a vexing problem.  The problem encountered was this:  The computer kept telling use that the monitor is hooked up to the wrong slot. Yet, we know it was the correct one since there's no other slot for it. It's one of those with screws yet. There are only 2 slots for this and the cable only fitted the one. How can we figure this one out? I've attached some photos below to illustrate the connection.

Thank you for your help.

Re:  I read it and it's for the HP Photosmart printer series. I googled and the HP LaserrJet Pro that we have is not one of the Photosmart printers.

The method in the link is for any older style printer, not just HP and not just photosmart.  you need to look for a closest match of listed printer after Windows update downloads all the drivers and show the model numbers in small window.

Have you tried the official HP Win 10 driver for this printer

https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/swdetails/hp-laserjet-pro-m1212nf-multifunction-printer-series/model/3965848/swItemId/Im-80811-9

Chances are Win 10 driver may be c/w Win 11 too.

That printer is not supported by Windows 11.

Did you try the other DVI connector for the monitor (the one just above where it's connected)?

If this is a USB old printer, there is trick to make it work by using add printer trick and Windows update to look for the closest match printer and install its driver.  This takes some patience and a bit luck too.

Re: The computer kept telling use that the monitor is hooked up to the wrong slot.

this means you do get video from DVI-VGA but the video is saying an error msg.  this is more likely b/c OP has pulled power cord from 8700 at old location and reconnected at new, during transit it has no AC power and a very low cmos battery voltage, which caused it to lose CMOS settings and got its logic corrupted.  The presumption is 8700 was always connected to power cord/outlet at old location therefore hiding the issue of old cmos battery.  First thing to do is replace cmos battery in 8700 w a new one, then clear cmos settings inside PC by motherboard clear cmos jumper. Remove the 2-pin jumper plug from pins 2 and 3 and fix it on pins 1 and 2. 4 Wait for approximately five seconds to clear the CMOS

refer to manual p.69 and 84

@ejn63 The only other connection that we can identify is at the left side of where the pinned cable is currently connected. It doesn't fit in that one.

@DELL-ChrisM2  The new one is a Dell. tower ECT1250. Monitor is a Dell 27 Plus QHD  S2725DS.  We couldn't get it to work with the HP LaserJet M1212mf MFP printer.

@redxps630 Thanks for the link. I read it and it's for the HP Photosmart printer series. I googled and the HP LaserrJet Pro that we have is not one of the Photosmart printers.

We did try to add the printer manually. And did the Windows Updater. The dropdown menu asked us to select which update to download (Dell Firmware 18+ or Related update). We selected the Dell firmware but it did not help.  We don't use the desktop for gaming, so did not download the Realtek update option. Idk if that'd have resolved the printer issue.

@redxps630 Wow. Sounds like a more complicated issue than anticipated. We'll try to follow your suggestion. Thank you.
