Slim ECS1250, upgrade to RTX 3050, platinum 360W PSU?

@DELL-Chris M Hi, Chris,

Sorry to hitchhike, but a similar question. I'm going to be upgrading a Dell Slim ECS1250 to support an RTX3050 (only requires a 300W+ PSU, no additional PCI-E power).

Is it possible to fit a platinum 360W PSU in place of the bronze 180W PSU?

If this is the wrong place to ask the question, please push!

Happy New Year!

David Hicks

I’m also interested in this 360W PSU upgrade on my Dell ECS1250 desktop...not sure if it has been attempted yet.

I’m looking to upgrade my GPU to a low-profile Nvidia RTX A1000, mainly for Cad/Cam work when needed.

This GPU card only uses 50W, but I am still concern with the stock 180W PSU as I have the Ultra 9, processor.

Any more information or even thoughts on my proposed configuration?

Much thanks in advance...Bob

Both upgrades have not been tested by Dell.

The online Slim ECS1250 Owner's Manual only mentions the onboard Intel UHD GPU. There is no mention of adding a video card to the motherboard half-height PCIe x16 slot. The Dell internal parts page does not show any add in video cards.

The Dell internal parts page for the Slim ECS1250 does not show any 360W PSU. It shows =

NC77H 180W, SFF, Acbel Bronze
F3J97 180W, SFF, Chicony Bronze
1756V 180W, SFF, Delta Bronze
7KFH8 180W, SFF, Huntkey Bronze
T685J 180W, SFF, LiteOn Bronze

The slim ECS is basically Inspiron “3040 small desktop”, which succeeds Inspiron 3030 small desktop.  These 30#0 are like Optiplex 30#0 in which PCIex16 slot by default 1 slot width from psu

The only RTX3050 that can fit has to be both (1) low profile (2) single slot width, given 30#0 SFF physical constraints.  These seems to be one such as https://www.amazon.com/maxsun-RTX-3050-Graphics-DisplayPort/dp/B0F9P1BBL

Now, can new Dell oem 360w psu physically fit the slim SFF case?  Answer is yes.  A similar slim pc QCS1255 (same case dimensions) has the 360w psu included in certification

Why Dell would test and validate 360w psu for QCS but not ECS?

ECS (code name Elektra) is “cheap” consumer model

QCS is business model for which Dell offers more premium configurations
