New Dell Towers, fun audio question

Ok,there is nothing wrong with my XPS 8930. I was just looking at the new Dell Towers and I noticed there is nowhere to plug in my (3) 5.1 audio speaker wires. So if I have to get a new Dell someday, what do I do about the sound?

I moved this to the new DELL PRO DESKTOP forum, someone there who had the Tower might be able to better help you.

I have the EBT2250 model. The manual --> https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-us/dell-ebt2250-desktop/dell-tower-plus-ebt2250-owners-manual/audio?guid=guid-88dd0d9b-43d5-4c80-b111-dda7910b90f5&lang=en-us may help, but the Audio page has this:

External audio interface
  • Headset port - 3.5 mm Universal audio jack
  • Front L/R surround line-out port - 3.5 mm Line-in port - 3.5 mm

So you might need a converter to 3.5mm jack it seems.

I'm using HDMI to pass the sound to the Monitor speakers.

Hopefully, someone over in the Dell Pro forum can help, but you might want to add the specific model you are looking at, spec's could be different.

You have two main options if you want to use a 5.1 system.

Install an internal sound card, as long as you don’t have a large graphics card installed. If you go with a Dell branded RTX 4060 , you will just have enough space to install a pcie sound card. Anything above that will cover the PCIe slot and you can’t install any additional PCIe cards.

Going external:

1) You  can use the SPDIF digital output from the pc to your 5.1 system if it has one, or use a digital converter to 5.1.

2) You can use an external USB sound card.

3) You can use an HDMI extractor adapter to 5.1 if you want to.
