Dell QBS1250 on BIOS 1.8.2 unreadable text on a Dell E207WFPc monitor

On boot, the Dell logo is distorted and cut off. The monitor status shows 640x480 @ 63Hz is the signal it is getting (native resolution is 1680x1050). It's using a DisplayPort to DVI cable.

I know it's an old monitor, but it's what we use to provision new PCs. Never had this problem before the QBS1250 generation of Dell computers. The computers arrived with BIOS 1.8.2 so I do not know if it is unique to this version or affects all. I will just dig out a different old monitor to try my luck on, but thought I should mention this regression.
