What is agent based scanning and agentless scanning in Dell OME

Need more clratity on this you mean to say agentless will take care of hardware part like monitoring of hardware, firmware upgrade(Basic Hardware Element Management)right?

Agent based is an inventory from OME to the actual OS installed on a server (Windows, Linux, ESXi). For this to be possible there is an agent necessary in the OS. This agent is OpenManage Server Administrator (OMSA) see http://delltechcenter.com/omsa for more info.

Agentless is when OME does an inventory directly to the iDRAC. This way there is no agent needed in the OS or even an OS at all. For more information on the Dell iDRAC see http://delltechcenter.com/idrac

I would advise you to start with Out of Band monitoring to the iDRAC.

Yes, you are right. Out of Band will do all those things you mention.
