system updates fail

I have installed OME and OMSA on servers.  I can sign into OMSA on the server with my admin credentials.  every time I try to a system update on the server it fail with the following message even though the credentials work with OMSA.

Results: Timeout was reached for obtaining the software update status from the target device. Please verify the credentials specified are valid and you can still connect to the device and re-run the inventory to determine if the update was successful.

what is wrong or what am I missing?

Hi,

 Thanks to the post.

As you mentioned your are performing Inband system update.

Kindly check below settings before system update.

1. MS [OME server] Firewall is disabled or system update port is open under firewall settings.

2. MN [target system] Firewall is disabled.

3. Make sure that target system is intact and reachable  to OME server.

Thanks,

Nitin

Hi,

Thanks to the confirmation that firewall is off and also 135 is open. Basically you are performing windows server system update.

I would request you to -

1. Restart OMSA services in target and rediscover in OME

2. Provide Administrators credentials of target systems to system update task.

3.Confirm that Dups (packages) are downloaded in OME at location C:\Program Files\Dell\SysMgt\Essentials\SystemUpdate\Packages and same are copied in target machine at C:\Windows\Temp directory.

If packages are copied in OME and not copied to target system it means there is an issue with target machine that connectivity is lost in between.

Please update us.

did those and it's still failing the same way

I should mention since it might make a difference, the target servers are hyper-v 2016 core.

I am able to do some updates on some other servers running hyper-v 2016 core but it seems not all the updates have been applied.  I am in the process changing the hypervisor on our Dell servers to hyper-v 2016 core and want to apply all system updates as part of this process.

Hi,

 Thanks to the updates.

Can you please confirm that,  What platform of Dell PE servers you are installed with Windows HyperV core OS?

the servers include

T310

R410

R710

and an R420 which according to OME is compliant but has an iDRAC initialization error on boot which can bypass with f1 however there are issues.  (ie.: fans on high speed)
