Query regarding the Dell iDRAC 9 snmp v2 trap settings

I have a Dell 640 PowerEdge server with iDRAC 9. I have configured snmpv2 settings and have enabled the alerts for "Storage", "System Health", "Configurations" and "Audits". When I do a power supply redundancy failure test, I see that the Dell server is sending different traps belonging to iDRAC and DELL-ASF-MIB. Is this expected?

iDRAC Traps -

alertRedundancyLost(1.3.6.1.4.1.674.10892.5.3.2.1.0.2473) & alertPowerSupplyFailure(1.3.6.1.4.1.674.10892.5.3.2.1.0.2185)

DcAsfSrv Traps -

enterprise=1.3.6.1.4.1.3183.1.1,genericTrap=6,specificTrap=527105

Also, is there a setting by which the Dell servers can send only iDRAC traps and not the DcASfSrv or other traps?

Thanks & Regards,

Sayan

Hey Sayan,

please let me first answer your second question. No, it is not possible to disable the enterprise traps, they are tied to the iDRAC traps. Like described in the iDRAC SNMP Guide: https://dell.to/2EymPcs

Regarding the first question, it is expected in this case. For the redundancy test one PSU will fail so iDRAC needs to send a PSU failed trap and the 2nd trap will be the redundancy lost trap. Both are tied.

Hope that answers your question.

Cheers
Stefan

Hi Stefan,

Thank you for the explanation. So similar to this case, can there be other ASF traps that are tied to iDRAC traps and will be sent along with the iDRAC SNMP traps when a specific fault condition occurs? Are there more enterprise traps viz. dcs3fru.mib, dcstorag.mib that are tied to iDRAC traps?

Thanks,

Sayan

Hi Sayan,

yes, there may be such situations where not just one component fails and iDRAC sends more than just one trap. Most likely when a PSU fails, because the redundancy fails too (2 traps).

But generally, it's just one trap. If fan1 fails iDRAC will send a FAN0001 trap for example.
