Override Device Name

Most of our servers are internal, but a few are externally accessible.  Those that are externally accessible have an extra DNS record for the external name.  OME is picking this up.  So, we have a list of systems with internal names, and then a few oddball entries with the external name.  Is there a way to override the "Device Name" in OME?  I would like to set all systems to show the internal name as that is what the IT staff know them as, and for consistency.

Hi,

I am not exactly sure what do you mean by internal and external names, but there is an option in OME from where you can choose if you want to see the Netbios name or the DNS name. You can choose that setting from discovery schedule settings. Try changing it to NetBios and then perform discovery after deleting it from device tree. Let us know if that helps.

Thanks, Pupal.  I guess my original question was how to choose the DNS name OME uses if there are multiple entries in DNS for the same system.  But, switching to NETBIOS will accomplish the goal.

The name resolution happens by ping -a to the IP. Whatever output you get, OME shows the same in the device tree. In case there are multiple entries for the same system, OME takes whatever is returned by the DNS server. There is no way to manually control this.

Thanks for letting us know that switching to Netbios will help.
