Monitoring OptiPlex devices via OMCI in OME

Hi,

I've been starting to install Dell's OMCI agent on a few OptiPlex PC's to test out some of the functionality, compared to the OMSA agent on our PowerEdge servers.

I've enabled SNMP on the PCs, and my OME instance is able to discover them and grab a basic inventory.  However, I noticed that the PCs are being classified as Servers, not Clients.  Is this because they were discovered via SNMP and not WMI?

Also, from OME, I'm not able to poll the PC for Hardware Logs - I get a "Request returned with empty logs" error.  Is this a limitation of OMCI agent installed on OptiPlex hardware?  Or can I expect different results using WMI?

Ultimately, should I be using WMI instead of SNMP for the monitoring of these PCs?

Thanks,

Chadd

Hi and thanks for the post.

Right...don't use SNMP for Opti...just WMI+OMCI.

Take a look at the whitepaper on www.delltechcenter.com/ome and we talk about some of the details, so that should help.

Logs can be pulled as well (WMI).

Thanks!

Rob
