Device has changed status to Unknown

We have a new setup of OME 2.4 along with new R730 servers.

We constantly get alerts of the status of a device iDRAC having changed to "unknown". A short time later it changes back to "OK". This occurs across all servers.

How do I resolve this?

Hi, thanks for the query.

Please check for below:

  1. When status poll is run in OME, hope no operations are carried out on the servers because of which it is unresponsive for health and inventory.
  2. Network lag between OME and target systems (WAN connectivity). You can try increasing timeout and retry values to cover for it.
  3. Any firewall rules that may be blocking configured protocol in certain time periods.

The OME server is in the same subnet as the iDRAC ports, so there is no firewall. Servers in the same physical location as the OME server still produce the unknown alert, so it's not WAN timeouts. There are no other operations occuring at the same time as the unknown alerts.

Your environment seems fine with this. Requesting you to get in touch with Dell Support. They can take a closer look and help resolve the problem.

Did you ever get an answer for this? I am experiencing the same issue.

Still have the issue. I've noticed it seems to be occuring on R730 models. R740 do not seem to have this issue. What model of servers do you have this occuring on?

Still escalating to Dell Support, but no resolution as yet.

I have found that ICMP packets are dropped if you run a continous ping to iDRACs running firmware version 2.52.52.52. Downgrading the firmware or updating it to 2.60.60.60 solves the ICMP packet drop. However, the "unknown status" alerts in OME are still occuring.
