configure iDRAC SNMP to OME
I'm setting iDRAC 7 to send SNMP to OME 2.2 (Windows) server. Test to send and got nothing. I set the destination ip to OME srever, same community string as SNMP service on OME, SNMP trap service started, port is 162. What did I do wrong?
Thanks,
David

restarted the services and tested again. still didn't see anything. BTW. Where am I supposed to see the snmp test message IF OME received it?
Thanks,
David

can you explain how iDRAC works with SNMP trap and OME on a Windows server? Does Windows SNMP trap service take all traps sent to it , pass on to SNMP service on the same server, then community string compared there, then pass on to destination in SNMP services which is OME? One thing I want to make sure that the string is correctly set.

Hi David,
Thanks for the query.
After starting SNMP trap service, please restart OME services. This can be done using OME UI. Navigate to Settings --> General Settings page and click "Restart Services" button.
Hope this helps!

OME will listen to the Windows SNMP trap service, anything that is received by Windows is displayed by OME regardless of the SNMP community string.
If you are sending a test trap from the iDRAC and it is not displayed it can it be a couple of things.
- there is a firewall between the iDRAC and OME server.
- the Windows firewall on the OME server is not configured to allow SNMP traps.
- the network between the iDRAC and the OME server is not routed.
- there is another SNMP trap listener installed on the OME server that is claiming the SNMP port.
These are most common problems.

1. OME Windows server firewall is disabled.
2. Since firewall is disabled on OME server so SNMP trap should go through.
3. From OME server I can ping the I DRAC address and access through web browser.
4. How to check if another listener is on port 162?
Thanks,

I finally found the problem. It is another software listening on UDP port 162. I ran netstat -n -o -a to find out the process ID using port 162. Then using Windows task manager to find out which process it is. Stop it and test again. All worked fine.
another quick question. Can OME 2.2 accept SNMP v1,v2 and v3 by default? Is there an option if I want to only use v3 and disable v1 and v2?
Thanks,

Hi,
OME currently supports only SNMP v1 and v2 by default.
We will take your feedback regarding v3 support and pass on to concerned stakeholders for future considerations.
Thanks,
Vijay
