Broadcomm nics losing IP details and reverting to DHCP

Hi,

Whilst updating broadcomm nics via OME, we have been getting very mixed results with the nics losing their IP details and reverting to DHCP.....but not always!!

What I have noticed is that if the nics are updated manually in Windows, then they update just fine.

Can someone help pls with an explanation of why this might be happening and is there a way around it like a simple reboot beforehand? It's a pain not being able to "trust" OME to make a clean install.

Cheers,

We think we have solved our problem.

Since our fleet has many different levels of firmware, most over 18 months old, we decided to update the bios/lcc and a few other bits first, reboot, then apply the nic firmware.

Seems that this allows the O/S to recognise the nics correctly. We are guessing that the bios update  allows for hardware to be identified correctly and thus allows the nics to keep their settings. Whereas applyng the nic updates before the bios causes the nics not to be recognised and thus they drop their settings.

Does the above ring true as an explanation for anyone, or not? Be interested in others thoughts.

Thx,

John Bradshaw
