Need some info for Lenovo Legion Pro 5 16IRX10 16" IPS QHD+ 240Hz i9-14900HX

Hello,

I need some info about this laptop - Lenovo Legion Pro 5 16IRX10 16" IPS QHD+ 240Hz i9-14900HX

Does it support 64GB of RAM if I add 2x32GB?

I also want to add an additional M2, what type/size it supports?

Thank you

Hi

Memory (RAM) expansion

From Lenovo PSREF/spec PDF for the 16IRX10:

  • Slots: 2 × DDR5 SO‑DIMM, dual‑channel capable.

  • Official spec: “Max memory up to 32 GB DDR5‑5600 offering.”

  • Typical shipped configs:

    • 16 GB (1×16) with a free slot, or 2×8.

    • 32 GB (2×16) at 5600 MT/s.

Enthusiast reports indicate that 64 GB (2×32) works, but usually with a drop in effective memory speed; Lenovo only guarantees 32 GB because that’s what they’ve validated.

Practical takeaways:

  • Safe/official: up to 32 GB (2×16 GB DDR5‑5600).

  • Likely possible but “use at your own risk”: 64 GB (2×32 GB) DDR5; expect JEDEC speeds and no vendor support if unstable.

Storage expansion

From Lenovo’s spec docs:

  • Slots: 2 × M.2 2280 PCIe 4.0 ×4 NVMe.

  • Official max: “Up to two drives, 2× M.2 2280 SSD; up to 1 TB each” in Lenovo’s tested configs.

  • Some PSREF variants list 1 TB 2242 as well, but the physical slots are 2280 PCIe 4.0 ×4.

In practice this means:

  • You can add a second PCIe 4.0 ×4 NVMe 2280 SSD alongside the factory drive.

  • Higher‑capacity drives (2 TB, 4 TB) usually work fine even though Lenovo only lists 1 TB as “max tested” for each slot; that limit is validation, not a hard controller limit.

Other expansion / connectivity

  • External displays: up to 4 independent total (internal + 3 external via HDMI + USB‑C).

  • HDMI: up to 8K@60 Hz with DSC.

  • USB‑C: also supports up to 8K@60 Hz with DSC; one port can provide 100 W USB‑PD input.

  • Networking: 1 GbE, Wi‑Fi 6 (802.11ax), Bluetooth 5.2 (varies by WLAN card used).

  • Security: Firmware TPM 2.0.

What you can realistically upgrade

  • RAM:

    • From 16 GB → 32 GB: swap to 2×16 GB DDR5‑5600 SO‑DIMMs.

    • 64 GB: 2×32 GB DDR5; should work but is unsupported and may downclock.

  • Storage:

    • Add a second PCIe 4.0 ×4 NVMe 2280 SSD in the empty slot.

    • Replace the factory SSD with a larger one (e.g., 2 TB or 4 TB), within thermal limits.
