Help Selecting

We wish to replace a non windows 11 compatible desktop system with a new system that is W11 compatible.  Because we do not understand computer terminology, trying to understand the marketing information and making a selection on our own seems an impossible task. If helping us with the selection process is something you do, we would greatly appreciate receiving from you how to get the process started. Thank You.

What model system are you replacing, and what CPU and how much RAM does it have?  Is it sufficiently fast for your applications?

The unit we wish to replace is an Asus unit, with an AMD chip, originally purchased from a local computer store. I'm sure CPU and RAM information are available, if I had a clue of how to find it, and recognize it when I see it. Not long after the unit's  purchase, it was taken out of service due to downsizing. Then, a few years ago we hooked it back into our network and started using it to store documents, etc shared among ourselves. It is not used as a work station, it is used strictly as a share unit. The accounting program, that we all access in our daily activities, is also on it. An internet connection is required to allow updates and technical service of our accunting program. The unit has a 500 GB hard drive and 440 GB is being occupied. Updates to our accounting program are incredibly slow. For instance, a download the service tech tells us is usually a 3 minute process, takes us 20 minutes. It would help greatly if that could be sped up, but other than that, it serves our 5 person operation quite nicely. We would greatly appreciate any recommendations you would wish to offer. Should you have any questions or wish additional information, simply let me know. Thanks, K.

If it's for business purposes, look at the Dell Pro line, and order with next business day support.  These are available with both AMD and Intel CPUs.  Of those, AMD has been more reliable with its CPUs over the last few product cycles.

If "download" means Internet, a new system by itself isn't going to address speed -- you probably also need more bandwidth (a fiber connection if it's available to you).

Thank you ejn63. With your reccommendation in hand I called Dell to find out if that unit is available with a higher capacity disk, since we are already using 85% of our 466GB.  Sadly I don't do well with accents but if I understood the lady correctly that unit is not available with a higher capacity disk. I greatly appreciate all that you have done for me but appartently Dell does not maunfacture a computer that will meet our needs. Appreciate your help. K.

@hbeTdky That is not necessarily so. Not knowing your exact needs, you can upgrade some of the key components, including storage (max + 1T). You can apparently add a secondary drive. (512 Gb SSd or 1  Terabyte conventional HDD). As already mentioned by the most-knowledgable technical Dell user, you should opt for the Dell ProSupport coverage for next-day support. Important for a business. Whomever you go with, and I suggest Dell, request that all the BIOS/UEFI and other firmware updates have been installed - conditional on purchase. I think you need your own local 'advisor' as to what is the right system and the right configuration. As a tax-deductible purchase get what you need without over-spending for what you don't.
