Dell 15 DC15250 No Video via USB-C port

We are trying to connect a Dell 27 Monitor SE2725HM to my new Dell 15 DC15250 via the USB-C port and it won't work.  It does not detect the monitor.  We have tried 3 different hubs (all of which work with different laptops) and none show the monitor.  We have tested other usb devices (mouse and scanner) via the hubs and the USB-C and those accessories work fine.  Any ideas?

There are two versions of this model - one with a plastic chassis and one with metal.   Which do you have?

The metal chassis model supports video over USB-C.

The base model has a plastic chassis and has only data over USB-C -- it does not output video over USB.

Manual is here

That is interesting.  It is the plastic case.  When I click on the service tag to get the owners manual it take me to this page:

That lead me to believe the USB-C port supported video.

If the USB-C port does not support video then there is basically no way to us a dual monitor set-up?  That is crazy for a new laptop!

These are replacements for the old Inspiron 3000 series models -- the fact that they come only with HDMI 1.4 and sell for just a few hundred dollars dictate the feature set.

If this system is new, you may want to return it in favor of an upgraded model.  The only other alternative is to use either HDMI external video or to use a displaylink adapter to connect your external monitor.

I might end up buying a new laptop, not sure if Dell or not.  This was actual $800 so not that cheap.

That's pretty much entry level at present, given the impact of memory and CPU price increases.

Any notebook under $1,000 will involve compromise these days -- it's harder and harder to build a notebook for that price point without cutting features or corners somewhere.

Even the new Macbook Neo has cut quite a few features -- including the keyboard quality and the use of a phone CPU rather than a true Apple Macbook CPU -- to keep the price under $1,000.
