14 Premium, eBay, service tag invalid
Hi Everyone,
I just purchased a refurbished Dell 14 Premium laptop from eBay. When I tried to register the laptop with my other laptops on Dell's website, it tells me that my "Service Tag is Invalid". I also tried the "Detect my PC" method and it runs indefinitely with no result.
I feel that the invalid service tag is causing me not to receive the proper updates through SupportAssist as it always scans clean with "No updates found". Even though I don't expect warranty support, how would do about in resolving the "Service Tag is invalid" issue?

They are usually shipped with a nondisclosure agreement that prohibits their sale and a requirement that they be returned to Dell. The system may not have a final, retail mainboard and firmware -- and if not, it likely won't be eligible for firmware updates. I would strongly consider returning the system to the seller for a refund.

Hi, sorry for late reply, but this problem has been resolved. I decided to return the system and purchase a new 14 Premium from Dell. I'm going to miss the upgraded Ultra 7 265H CPU the orphan unit had, but I rather get one that has support. The orphan unit was also missing the required CE marks and service tags on the base cover that my larger 16 Premium has.

Not as such, but they're never intended for sale. As I wrote earlier, if you're not happy with an orphan system, return it for a refund.

Only your seller can resolve that. If they can't or won't, and you have return privileges, return the system for a refund.

I was able to contact the seller and they don't have full knowledge of the unit. They believe it was previously a demo or review system. Are these systems blacklisted by Dell?
