14 Premium DA14250, haptic touchpad, high pitched ring noise when clicked
I just bought a dell 14 premium (2025) and the haptic touchpad has a high pitched noise when it is clicked. Sometimes the noise is very audible, a couple of seconds later it seems to disappear, and then it suddenly appears again. The ring also seems to vary based on where you click on the trackpad. I have updated all my drivers to the latest versions.
I would greatly appreciate a fix to this issue through a driver update or any other solution. There is no option to turn off or reduce the sound of the haptic touchpad, as decreasing the intensity in Windows settings also reduces the feeling of the click which I don't like.
The noise I am talking about can be heard in the video I have attached below. Turn your volume up and listen closely for the high pitched ping overlapping the sound of the click. This sound is much more noticeable in real life. I watched a review on this product before buying that mentioned this issue so its not just my laptop. The name of the channel is Just Josh and the timestamp on his dell 14 premium review video is 9:13.

What power source are you using when the noise happens?
1. The factory shipped Dell AC power adapter
2. A dock. If yes, specify the dock model
3. A third-party AC power adapter
Does it happen when the 14 Premium DA14250 is unplugged and running on battery?
Is the 14 Premium DA14250 running the Dell factory image? Or did you install a customized image?
Have you updated the 14 Premium DA14250 to the latest drivers and BIOS?

1. What power source are you using when the noise happens?:
Factory shipped Dell AC Power Adapter or running on battery
2. Does it happen when the 14 Premium DA14250 is unplugged and running on battery?:
This issue occurs both on battery power and when plugged into factory shipped Dell AC Power Adapter
3. Is the 14 Premium DA14250 running the Dell factory image? Or did you install a customized image?:
The laptop is running the Dell Factory Image and the touchpad has had a high pitched ring ever since I first opened it and set up the laptop.
4. Have you updated the 14 Premium DA14250 to the latest drivers and BIOS?:
Yes, I am up to date on all Windows, Driver, and BIOS Updates
This issue has remained constant, it has neither gotten worse nor better with time, with updating everything, and even with reinstalling touchpad drivers.
I believe this issue has to do the haptic actuator hitting a resonant frequency within the laptop's chassis which might be amplified by the large seamless glass palm rest. In other words, this sound is a physical issue that will probably be fixed by firmware tuning in a driver update. Considering others have this issue, I don't believe it is a defect of the components or software in my device.

A technician came out and changed the touchpad but the noise remained. He then suggested I turn off the sound all together. I’m fine with no sound at all, it’s better than that tinny/metal clicking sound. To turn off the sound go to Settings- Bluetooth & Devices - turn off Touchpad feedback. It also has an option to leave it on but change the intensity. I found just turning it off works best for me. Good luck.

Thank you for sharing your experience with a replaced touchpad because I was considering giving that a shot, but now I know it wont help. You saved me a lot of trouble.
As for turning off the touchpad feedback, a touchpad with no click at all is an unacceptable compromise for a laptop of this price. If there was an option to turn off the sound and leave the clicking sensation that would be great, but the high pitched sound comes from the clicking vibration itself.
For others with this issue I believe the best settings right now would be leaving the touchpad feedback on with the intensity at 25%, this provides the best balance of feedback and decreased high pitched noise. If you are ever in a situation where you don't want to hear the touchpad noise, tapping the touchpad to click without any noise still works with this setting on.
