14 Premium DA14250 - Backlit Function Row question

I just got the Premium 14 laptop to replace my 4-ish year old XPS 13. The XPS had actual keys for the Function row - whereas the Premium 14 has a capacitive-touch Function row with a backlight. I'd prefer not to look at the backlight all the time, and in dim environments it's quite bright, but it seems like the keyboard backlight is separate from the Function row. No matter what I have the keyboard backlight at, the Function row is unaffected - same when I went into the BIOS and lowered the keyboard light to 50%.

Is there no way to change the Function row backlight?
I would prefer to have it light up only when I need to use it (like when I press the Fn key it could light up for example). Or at the very least be able to make it dimmer..

Thanks.
