14 Plus DB14250, Innoview USB-C portable monitor, won't connect

The only way I have gotten my portable monitor to function was by using a USB C cable (Power) and an HDMI to mini HDMI to my portable monitor (Innoview) from just the laptop. I was able to use this monitor with other Dell laptops with just the USB C cable (7425 2-in-1 and Precision 7680). It doesn't seem like the USB-C ports handle Power Delivery and Video Output simultaneously. Any insight to this issue?

@DELL-Daniel V I ended up getting another monitor to try (ASUS ZenScreen) and it appears to be working just fine with only the USB C cable. So just appears to be an incompatibility with the original Innoview monitor. Thank you for your help again!

Certainly an odd one. The 7425 2-in-1 is the weakest of the 3, so if that can do it, then I don't see why the DB14250 couldn't. I presume you're using the same USB C cable amongst all 3 laptops? Have you tried a known good USB C cable? Whats the exact model of the monitor you're trying to connect to? Maybe you need a certain displaylink driver. I'd try this one from us first. If that doesn't do it, then you could try this one instead. Both of the C ports on the DB14250 would be capable of at least 15w of power per their minimum specs. If you have dell command update or supportassist installed, I'd recommend using those to ensure your other drivers are also up to date. Primarily BIOS and graphics.

@DELL-Daniel V Thank you for responding, I do appreciate it!

Yes, I have used the same USB C Cable between all models.
Monitor is an Innoview INVPM406.
I tried both of the displaylink downloads you recommended with the same result.
Dell Command Update and Support Assist did not find any newer drivers/updates.

When the monitor is plugged in via USB-C, I receive the splash screen, followed by the NoSignal message, then the screen turns off/goes to sleep.

I do also receive a constant (about every 30-45 seconds) windows popup stating: "USB Device not recognized. The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned, and windows does not recognize it. "

The only other hints I could find online regarding this issue, is that it may be a Power Delivery/Video display negotiation issue for the port?

Thank you again!

Contact Dell GHN (Get Help Now) chat technical support Monday through Friday. Click the blue "Get Help Now" on the right to start a private live chat session. Share the private Service Tag with them so that they can verify the ownership and warranty status. This will also generate a unique Technical Support case for your unique Service Tag.

It'd be a good idea to contact support to see if they have any other recommendations. I don't expect a hardware failure with the USB C ports, but its something worth checking with them. However, it does seem like this portable monitor should work just fine. With the USB device errors popping up, that'd really just leave me with 2 other recommendations. First, I'd try out a known good display via USB C if you have one available. If unavailable or unresolved, then I would try a USB root hub refresh:

  1. Open Device Manager
  2. Scroll down to Universal Serial Bus Controllers
  3. Right click and uninstall all instances of USB Root Hub
  4. Restart the unit and test

For some reason or another, there may just be some incompatibility between the two if still unresolved.
