Standards and best practices backup Documentation

Hi everyone.I know  this isnt a regular tecnicall question (and  i Have already read some  google articles about it ) :

I need to start  documenting  Networker and Avamar  Backups and policies(actually  I dont have an official paper with that information but the backups are working). So i want to start  with the "right  foot"  to accomplish this task , in  your personal experiencie where i  should start from.
