How to set up DPA 6.1 SP1 to monitor VMware
I only dabble a bit with DPA. I am using it now only to monitor Avamar backups, but I want to set it up to monitor VMware. Specifically, I want to get alerts whenever a VM is deleted, renamed, or created. This seems fairly modest to me. Is it possible? Do I need any additional licenses in my DPA environment? I tried to go to the VMware section in the Discovery wizard, but the line with the "VMware" checkbox is grayed out (see the attached screen shot). How do I get started setting this up? The admin guide is no help at all with this.

Hi Stan,
Yes this should be possible. In DPA 6.2.1 there is a new rule trigger for alerting to specify if there is an addition to the inventory. So in this case you can be alerted when a VM is created and shows up in DPA. Also you could create a change details report for the VMs showing which ones have been added or deleted between 2 times, and use that in a scheduled rule template.
Monitoring of VMs requires a separate license which will then enable the option in the discovery wizard.
Thanks
David
