What sw is needed to backup VMs from ESXi Hosts in vCenter to a Dell EMC DD3300?
What software is needed to backup VMs from ESXi Hosts in vCenter to a Dell EMC DD3300 Data Domain?
As best I can tell you cant do much with the Data Domain without extra software.
Dell/EMC has Avamar or Networker that can run VMware backups.
I found a demo of Sphere Data Protection using a Dell Data Domain as a storage target. But the vCenter license don’t seem to have that.
Veeam also has support for Dell/EMC Data Domain Boost (DD Boost) as backup repositories.
All look like they need a VM to run the software as a backup server. So no way to just backup VMs to the Data Domain?

This forum seems kind of dead.
I’m sure there is more than one way to do this but after numerous calls to Dell and Veritas I got it working. It’s odd that this is like a Data Domains thing but calling Dells EMC sales and support they acted like I was talking gibberish.
There is a lot of compatibility info from Dell and Veritas and Veritas seems to be more up to date as far as what Windows OS, Data Domain OS and OST plugin version can work together.
It looks like Dell can supply an OST driver or app that will let backup software like Backup Exec or Avamar or Networker can see the Data Domain as a backup device. Our customer is using Backup Exec. So you have to find the right OST install from Dell and our service tag comes up as not in their system so that took some searching to find. After installing Backup Exec and the OST add-in you can add the DD300 Data Domain as an OpenStorage device.
Have you tried this link? https://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/product-support/product/data-domain-3300/overview
Also which download are you looking for? If it is DD OS download, you can download it it from the main DD product support page here https://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/product-support/product/data-domain/overview

Just for the docs..... we use Vizioncore->Quest->Dell->Quest vRanger together with a DD3300. vRanger have ddboost support for a along time.
