VTL Library from LTO5 to LTO7

Hello,

we have a VTL configured with a LTO5 drive under a DD6300. Is there a lean solution to upgrade the library as well as the drive to LTO7?

If no, can I configure new new library (LTO7) and migrate the existing tapes/data?

Greetings

why? it is just a virtual tape drive? I can't recall that using a different type of emulation would have any benefit? would you even be bothered that much? or are you running into issues with support with for example tape drivers?

What is the reasoning wanting to move from lto5 to lto7 emulation? There is for example no direct link to the lto emulation being used and the size configured of the virtual tapes. We even kept the tape size rather small (100GB if I recall correctly) to prevent keeping to much data active on the DD, if there would be only a tiny amount of active data on it. Not until a virtual tape is relabeled, data would not be able to be cleaned on the DD end.

https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000193210?lang=en "The IBM i Host platform: An Introduction & Overview" states:

"DELL EMC can support the IBM i host natively with the Data Domain VTL solution (Virtual Tape Library). The Data Domain system can present an IBM i supported tape library and drives, i.e. by emulating the IBM 3584 library with LTO5 or LTO7 tape drives. For the IBM i host LPAR this is a transparent configuration, it has no concept of the virtual library, it just uses the physical library functions to perform the backup/restore of data."
