Do not place user files in the top-level directory of an MTree
hi there ...
Can anybody advise me that the reason DDOS6.0 Administration Guide says `` Do not place user files in the top-level directory of an MTree``
all the sudden ? As I found no such a statement in previous version guide ....
I guess this would be COMMON SEANCE that is why ?
Also advise if it is ... if user had File in top level ,,,,, then upgrade to 6.0 , what would be the outcome ?
thanks

The issue with placing files in the top level is a permissions issue. In support we spend a lot of time resetting the permissions for files in the top level. That is why we suggest that you create the mtree and then setup a directory structure. When you do this it allows you to be able to set groups and users and the permissions work with out issues.

hi Repl-Man
Thank you for the reply ...I understand that creating file on top level of Mtree is not smart way ... would this be relevant to
version ? Not to put user file in top level of Mtree is not a New thing in DDOS 6.0? This is kind of gentleman`s agreement kind of thing ?
thanks !

This is best practice to not do this. If you don't set a folder structure just under the root of the mtree you cant set permissions properly.

Thanks you ReplーMan!

So you would not say this is supposed to be in the Doc in the first place... It is about time start stating from 6.1 right ?
BTW ,,,If User already create user file in top directory ,, This need to be corrected ?
Thanks !
