DD6800 and DS60 shelves
Hi all,
how many DS60 shelves can I connect to a Data Domain 6800?
From the product overview I learned that the maximum capacity of a DD6800 with extended capacity is 288 TB.
The "Hardware Overview and Installation Guide" states that a DD6800 can have up to 28 ES30 shelves (4*7, page 52). But there is no information about the amount of DS60 shelves. Just a drawing of a DD6800 with five DS60 shelves (page 60).
If I'm correct, a fully loaded DS60 shelve has the capacity of 192 TB when using the 4 TB HDDs. That means I can only connect one shelve to the DD? Two shelves would exceed the maximum capacity.
I have a customer who wants to buy a DD6800 and he needs 190 TB on the base configuration. Than he wants to expand the DD every year for the next four years by an additional 180 TB. But in my eyes the DD6800 can not fulfil this requirement.
Any help or suggestions are appreciated, thanks!
Cheers

DD6800 is maximum at base spec at 192TB RAW storage (odd number is to account for ES20's temporarily during a controller upgrade to storage migrate the shelves).
In ES30 or DS60 pack terms treat this max base spec value as 180TB RAW.
When you want to exceed that base spec number, you will need expanded spec, so 2 more SSD's for cache tier (has 2xSSD in base spec) and this will take you to max RAW capacity of 360TB for the system.
Thats 6x 60TB (4TB disk) "packs" there are a max of 4 packs per DS60 - so you need 2.
Thats 8x 45TB (3TB disk) "packs" there are a max of 4 packs per DS60 - so you still only need 2.
You could still go down this road and controller upgrade to the DD9300 fairly easily (base=480TB expanded=900TB).
