DataDomain Dedupe&Compression

Question

Hi All,

First time poster here.

I was hoping someone could help me out and clarifying across what data the Compression and Dedupe is done. I know with some storage products its limited by Volume, so Dedupe will only dedupe data on its own Volume.

Is this the same for DataDomains? Is it limited to each MTree? Or is it across the whole device operating across all Mtree's?

Same question for Compression?

If anyone finds this in documentation, do you mind pasting the link? I will continue reading away to see if I can find it.

Hi Stuart,

Data Domain deduplication is across the whole box as there is a single File System. You can segregate that into multiple by creating MTree's but still the deduplication is across the whole box. Same goes for compression.
