Data Domain DD640 OS location
I was recently given a DD640 to re-purpose. I don't know anything about these units and the network admin that knew about this unit has left the company. The hard drives were securely destroyed. When I boot the unit, it can't find the OS and is looking for a bootable disk. Is the OS installed on the front disks (if so on how many), or is it stored on an internal disk or controller card? What do I have to do to get this thing operational?

You should open service request on emc support. They should give You access to ftp to download DataDDomainOS USB disk image with instruction how to re-new this unit. Regards S.

This doesn't answer the question. Is the OS installed on the front removable disks (if so on how many), or is it stored on an internal disk or controller card?

Hi Metzler000,
In a DD640, you can have either 7 or 11 disks, but the answer really is the same.
DDOS is installed upon a number of the front removable disks and uses a combination of RAID levels, either RAID0 or RAID6, depending upon what the partition is used for.
As the hard drives have been securely erased, then you will have to obtain a DDOS USB installable image, which as szymonilluzion, pointed out, can be performed by raising a support case.
Hope this helps,
cheers, Rich.
