ProSupport Flex
I recently bought a Dell Precision 5480 from eBay to use as a secondary PC. The seller sold it in "Open Box" condition.
The thing is immaculate. Upon looking it up on Dell's support site, I've learned that (a) it's a CTO order and (b) it has a ProSupport Flex plan.
For my Dell Precision 5490 that I purchased new earlier this year, I bought it with ProSupport Plus. I generally buy all my Dell PCs with ProSupport Plus.
It's my understanding that ProSupport Flex is subscription-based offering that is only available to businesses that buy at least 1000 Dell PCs. I'm a long-time Dell fan and I probably own more of them than anyone ought to; but there's no way I own anywhere near that many.
So, I have two questions:
1) I've yet to do an ownership transfer on this Precision 5480. If I do so, how does transfering and/or renewing ProSupport Flex work? For context, It has another year of it before it runs out; this will be its second year of being on ProSupport Flex (during its first year, it had its base warranty and not ProSupport Flex). Will I need to change it to ProSupport Plus? Or will I be able to renew it, myself?
2) Considering ProSupport Flex is a subscription that businesses, theoretically, spend money on and on a recurring basis, should I be concerned that this Precision 5480 is stolen?
The seller sold one other unit (that I wanted to buy as this configuration of 5480 serves a specific use case that I have fairly well, but I was outbid by someone who sniped) and says that he will come into more of the exact same configuration and condition (Core i7-13800H; 32GB RAM; 256GB SSD; Open-Box Condition). So, I'm guessing he's getting them from the same company that bought and never deployed them.
