Ownership Transfer for eBay purchase.

I noticed under the ownership transfer page that you can request an ownership transfer if you bought the item from eBay as a used unit.  I've done the transfer request using the eBay sellers details as the previous owner and it's been rejected.  How do I resolve this?

You'll need the assistance of the seller and the current, registered owner's information.  If the seller cannot or will not assist, you either accept the system as an orphan, or return it for a refund.

@ejn63 The Dell Warranty & Ownership transfer page lists the below:

"

Ownership Transfer

NOTE: Incomplete or Incorrect details cause delays in processing your request and may result in a denial of the ownership transfer.

There are two main reasons to register the ownership information:

  1. Change of Ownership of new or used Dell product from third-party resellers.
    • Purchased Dell product from Amazon Marketplace (even if Fulfilled by Amazon)
    • Purchased Dell product from eBay or similar shopping sites in your region.

Now I bought the Optiplex 5090 SFF from an IT reseller on eBay.  I've contacted the reseller and they can't give me the original user as it was bought as part of a job lot.  I've tried to do the transfer using the reseller as the owner but Dell won't accept it.  Even though their transfer policy says you can.

The unit is registered on the Dell website as part of my account, but I can't transfer the remaining 2.5 years warranty.  Or is it the fact that it's registed on Dell as part of my account mean the warranty is now also registered to me also?

You'll have to ask Dell -- but I suspect that the answer for the warranty transfer is (and will be) no, not without the information from the registered owner.

@DELL-Cares Well contacted Dell for a Master Password Code unlock and even though I can prove I own the unit and that I bought it from an IT reseller.  Because neither myself or the reseller can provide the original first purchaser details, DELL have said they basically won't do anything.  I even asked if they could contact the previous owner via their details they have on file and ask if they could do the transfer.  DELL won't and basically don't won't too know.  So the unit is now just a paperweight because I can't get into the bios to add a new NVME drive and install an OS.   Looks like i'll be going back to Lenovo units from now on.

Return the system to the seller for a refund - simple as that.
