Delayed and Frustrated
Ok..I'm getting beyond frustrated! Placed an order on April 5th. Estimated delivery date was the 19th. Everything at first seemed to be going exactly as their dates said it would.
Order was suppose to be out of production by the 9th...got a email on the 9th saying it was done and would take up to 5 business days to go from factory to sorting center. Next date was the "shipping" date of the 18th. Got an email on the 18th saying it was shipped...that's where it stopped.
No updates after that. On the 21st I contacted Dell (as I paid for overnight shipping so it was set to arrive on the 19th) and was told that the date of the 18th was when it shipped from Shanghai. That it would take 5 to 7 business days to get to the sorting facility in the US. I questioned that, this didn't make sense as the email I got on the 9th stated that same thing, and that period had already passed. But I was assured over and over that it was on it's way to the US and it should be here by the 27th.
Since that date I have now gotten 3 more emails delaying the arrival and now we are out to May 9th.
The frustrating part is I'm at a stand still with my work while I wait for this to arrive. Since it's past the production status I don't think canceling my order is a option...even though when I log into my account the first thing I see is a message that says I must review and consent to the new estimated delivery date or your order must be cancelled. And honestly I don't even think the computer has been built yet. As soon as they said it was coming from Shanghai, I knew I was in trouble since they have been in lock down since the end of March.
I think the first few emails where auto generated since they were right on time, and you don't know there's an issue until you get to the shipping part. So now i'm stuck! I have an order I can not cancel, I can't go buy another computer because my $ I was going to use is wrapped up with Dell, and a business that's basically at a stand still.
Shame on you Dell! I understand the pandemic and lockdown. But why when an order is placed and I was told "you assigned my laptop to them because they had the parts" did you not then contact the person that placed the order and explained that this could push back the date. Why am I now stuck waiting for a laptop that I probably won't even see for a couple of months. I should have the option to easily cancel this order completely

Canceling the order is very possible -- you do not need to consent to the delay. Do so, and then buy a system locally that's in stock with a retailer.
Just about any notebook system you order will be delayed due to the current situation in China, unless you buy a system not built there (which will limit you to Samsung, LG or some Lenovo Thinkpad models).

I am actually in the midst of cancelling one of my orders. It's actually not that simple. Cancelling an order doesn't mean you get a refund right away. It means that when the laptop arrives in the US, they will redirect the order back to Shanghai and once the factory receives the order, you will get the refund in 10-15 business days (iirc). So cancelling his order would actually him over as his funds will be locked in for another month or so.

Thanks for the information and that's what I was afraid of.
Honestly, I get it...and I get that it's stuck over in Shanghai. The frustrating part is the generic "it's on it's way" messages. Just be honest from the start. When your order is sent to the Shanghai location to build because they have the parts then contact the customer and let them know and let them know there maybe a delay due to this. Don't put out dates that you know won't be met.

Welcome to the club! Prepare for a long wait. Mine, according to Dell, has been shipped April 6th and still absolutely nothing, not even working tracking number. And I agree on the comments regarding cancelation. As soon as Dell considered it shipped, there is no cancelation option, only return. I've never received any email from Dell asking to agree with the delay, BTW. Something tells me if Dell provides you with cancelation option, that means your order is still in production

That's like me. I was told mine actually left Shanghai on the 18th and it would take 5-7 days to reach the US. I told them that was funny because after the shipping notification on the 18th, everything including that notification that was actually sent to me said it's still on track to arrive on the 19th. Didn't understand how it was suppose to ship from Shanghai on the 18th and arrive on the 19th. But just this week 3 more emails about delayed arrival.
I do have the message about reviewing and consenting to the new delivery date. But when I click on it, it just sends me to my order page. No where is there a link to consent to it. I even called to question that, and where was the next step to review or cancel. I got the biggest run around and so much nonsense came out of her that I finally hung up. Not a single thing that came out of her mouth had anything to do with the review/consent message.
And when I click cancel order I only have a message to contact customer service
