Cause-of-failure information after Dell repair
My Inspiron 7630 went dead after 18 months, 6 months past the warranty, and I'm having it repaired for £317 (+ £44 for assessment) using Dell support. Not a very satisfactory situation. I am told that the motherboard, the keyboard and other bits need to be replaced but I am not being given any information whatsoever about why it failed. Was it my fault? If so, what? Or, among other possibilities, do Dell computers commonly fail just beyond the warranty year? I would not only like to know, I need to know.

Finding the cause of failure can take a skilled technician hours. Unless you're willing to pay for that, diagnosis just will not happen.
Most repairers now are parts-changers -- unless you find a shop that specializes in board level repairs (which very often turn out so expensive it's cheaper to simply replace parts).
