fcns database
Hi,
I am a newbie to switches. Could anyone explain what is the main purpose of fcns database in a cisco switch. Does this database exists in Brocade switches also. If so by what name it is called as ?

Take a look at http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/storage/san_switches/mds9000/sw/rel_1_x/1_0_2a/san-os/configuration/guide/MgngStorDevc.html

To sum up, the fcns database contains the Name Server info (FCID, WWN, WWPN, CoS, etc) used in FC environments and keeps track of the devices connected to the fabric. To interrogate the Name Server in a Brocade environment, two useful commands are:
- nsshow
- nscamshow

That’s right.
FCNS database using by Cisco SAN switch for storing the N-Port LOGI information, which contains "FCID,WWN,Service parameters,etc..."
N-Port Login must be finished before a N-Port device can use, which happened after the FLOGI, before the PRIL.
