To begin with you will have to ensure a physical connectivity between the storage device and the switch through a fibre cable.

The DS 8100 is physically connected to the Brocade 48K switch( fiber cabled Lc to Lc connection )but I am unable to see the WWN of the DS8100 on the switch side. Under switch report, the port shows as No Light. Do I have to turn on anything on the switch for it to logon. please reply.

make sure the ports on the switch are enabled, if you run switchshow command you will see port status.

A common mistake is the physical cable. Make sure the Rx / Tx is plugged in the right way. If it's a fixed cable (2 fibers connected to eachother, so there's no way you can reverse them) this should be ok, but if the 2 fibers are disconnected from eachother, you might want to try pulling the patch cable from on of the 2 sides and switch the Rx and Tx sides and plug them in again.
