Changing ports for a server

We are moving a virtual server from blade1 to blade2 and another server from blade2 to blade1. When doing this move, the MAC addresses for the NICs and the Fiber Channel ports will change for both of these servers.  The WWNs for the fiber channel cards will remain the same.

The server is already zoned in the Brocade. Is there anything I need to do if the port it is plugged into changes?

I believe soft wwn based.  They tell me the wwn and I search for it then zone based on that.

What's the type of zoning enabled on the switch whether soft (wwn based) or hard (port based) zoning?

Soft zoning provides portability.

hope this helps,

Yes, if the zonning is WWN based then you may change the ports and still the configuration would work. SO if you are able to search the WWNs in the zonning database it should be WWN based zonning.

If you would have Virtual connect modules (HP), you can easily “migrate” the wwpn’s and MACs to another blade server. We use is and it works very good !
