What do i need to do to change the controllers?

I have 2 SC5020 with two controllers each - I need to move the controller from one storage to another to check the functionality. What should I configure on the controller being moved? Thanks

Hello,

Are you having an issue you are troubleshooting?

If so can you provide any details?

Below are steps for removing and installing a controller:

Before Moving the Controller

  1. Backup Configuration:
    • Yes, you can and should back up the configuration before making any hardware changes.
    • Use Dell Storage Manager (DSM) or Enterprise Manager to create a backup of the system configuration.
    • Navigate to System > Backup/Restore in DSM and follow the prompts to export the configuration.
  2. Check Firmware Compatibility:
    • Ensure both SC5020 systems are running the same firmware version.
    • Mismatched firmware can cause boot or compatibility issues.
  3. Label and Document:
    • Label all cables and connections.
    • Document IP addresses, WWNs, port mappings and any custom settings.

Moving the Controller

  1. Power Down the Controller:
    • Gracefully shut down the controller you plan to move using DSM or the front panel.
  2. Remove the Controller:
  3. Install in the Target System:
    • Insert the controller into the same slot (A or B) in the target SC5020 chassis.
    • Ensure it is seated properly and all connections are secure.
  4. Reconfigure Network and System Settings:
    • On boot, the controller may retain its original configuration.
    • You may need to reset or reassign IP addresses, host mappings, and other settings to match the new environment.
