Virtual Volume(VVols) in SCv7020
Hello Everyone, Do we need a separate licence in SCv7020 to use the feature of Virtual Volume with VMware ESXi as I dont see the option of VASA provider while I try to add the vCentere Server in the Storage . I have also followed up Dell Document and dont see the option of adding VASA ?

If you select the "Servers" tab at the lower left when connected to the DataCollector you can add vCenter like servers and during the workflow you can mark a checkbox about using VASA(2).
We always setup these because we use VASA to create custom storage profiles within vSphere. So i dont thins VVOL needs a extra License and must be comes within base SCOS licensing.
Warnung about vVOLs and compellents. Dell SC implements this features with the help of the Dell Storage Manager (formaly known as Enterprise Manager) Data Collector. It comes as a Windows bases application or as linux bases Appliance. For production usage the Appliance needs a external Database.
If the DSM Datacollector not avaiable no vVOL action can be take like starting a VM or make some modifications. So dont run the DSMDC on top of your installation or on vVOLs. There is a chicken and egg problem. Keep this in mind.
Other vendors implement vVOLs within the storage and its protected by the 2 CMs every modern storage have.
I never use vVOL in production.

Joerg

What SCOS and DSM version are you using? I think VASA(2) are available only on 7.X and minimum of DSM 2016 R1.

Hi Jerog,
Thank you fro your reply. Yes you are 100 % right about all the things mentioned by you but I still have one query.
I have been using Data Collector Database as a Local Database. So what will happen if I load a dedicated VM for Data Collector and use the database as Local. Will I be facing any issues?
My VVOLs are working right not and my entire infrastructure is in test scenario. Do you recommend using VVOLs ? Please, do share me your knowledge regarding it as I am new to this VVOL world.
