Unable to discover Dell SCV2020

Hi All,

I have a Dell SCV2020 storage that needs to be configured from scratch. I used Dell management client as per dell's guide but couldn't discover Storage center, there is no error, it just couldn't detect. I have used 'Direct connect' Method that is mentioned on same document (the link is below) but no success.  I have used 'Dell EMC Storage Client Windows -16.3.20.31' on both windows 2008 server and windows 10 machine to discover the controller.

I couldn't find any other help on the web so I am currently stuck now. Any help from the community will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Rajan

Hello Rajan,

If you are following the Deployment guide http://topics-cdn.dell.com/pdf/storage-sc2000_deployment-guide_en-us.pdf  and you are not able to get your storage seen using either automated or Direct connect method then I would contact support as we will need to look into your issue.  When you can’t connect using the direct connected method we will need to confirm that there is not an issue with your controllers.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hi Sam,

Thankyou for the reply. As I am based in Nepal and we procured the product from one of the DELL agent, it is really hard to get support. The storage doesn't contain any data at the moment and there aren't any hardware fault reported on any LED's so shall I try factory reset and connect ? if it is possible then could you please advise how do I go ahead with this.

Thanks,

Rajan

Hello Rajan,

Here are some steps that you can try to see if you can discover your SCv2020.

  1. Verify the array has been turned on at least 5 minutes, with no fault LED lit on the either the front of the chassis or either controller. Verify the Diagnostic LEDs on each controller indicate both controllers are fully booted.
  2. Verify the network cables are plugged into controller ports labeled “Mgmt”. It is important to note that the bottom controller is inverted on the SCv2000 and SCv2020 systems.
  3. Verify the server is connected to the same physical subnet as the array. It is best to connect to the same switch.
  4. Temporarily disable any firewall on the system running the Dell Storage Manager deployment wizard.
  5. It is possible that settings on the switch are blocking the discovery. Disable IGMP snooping, broadcast storm, unicast storm, multicast storm on the network switch.

IGMP snooping is enabled by default on some PowerConnect / N Series switch firmware versions.  Disable IGMP snooping on the VLAN.  For example, on a PowerConnect / N Series switch with only the default VLAN 1, the command would be:

no ip igmp snooping vlan 1.

  1. Use the MAC address of each controller and manually perform the discovery. The MAC address can be obtained from the switch or it is also located on top of each controller (need to remove controller from chassis to view sticker).
  2. If still unable to discover the array to deploy, there is two additional methods that will allow the array to be deployed. Both methods are further detailed in the Storage Center deployment guides.

 A. Deploy the Storage Center using the Direct Connect Method.

 B. Use the CLI Setup Utility tool to do initial deployment and finish with Dell Storage Manager.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.
