Trying to access SC4020

Ive bought two SC4020 used from a company. I also got some drives but they have been wiped and were not in these arrays. The SC4020s have not been factory restored and just powered down and put away. The bad news is I dont have any logins, the good news I guess is that the licenses are still in the systems. Warranty expired on the service tags in 2018.

I have soldered a 3.5mm jack to a Cisco console cable and have gotten access to the console. My main concern is that the SC4020 cant seem to stay active without the original drives installed. Seems weird, no essential config to keep the SAN alive should be on the data drives. After they boot up you get:

All essential disks are missing, rebooting in 170 seconds unless disks are found

I have tried to use the USB-trick with the unlock.phy to no avail. Its a bit stressful when you only have 180 seconds. I can boot up with just one controller and have it not reboot but not sure if it actually boots all the way up in that mode. There it waits for the other controller instead and doesnt reboot because of missing drives.

One systems seems to be running newer software. I can surf to the management IP and get to the HTML5-based management Unisphere. Not really clear with the USB unlock-method which Admin-user is actually reset, console-user, Unisphere? The other system seem to be running older software. I can get a response with wrong password when connecting with Storage Manager client that I couldnt get to the unisphere system.

Not sure how many different usb-sticks I should try, kind of hard when you dont get any feedback.

What are my options here? I cant even factory default them even if I wanted to since I cant get in. Seems like a weird SAN this coming from HP and other brands. That capable hardware can be practically useless when you have physical access to the hardware you should be able to get in.

Hi,

Maybe one of the community members will have an idea for you. From an official standpoint the best option would be to call in and have it be factory reset with support.

They may charge for support.
